The Old World Cipher guards an ancient vault in the Sunken District. Unlike the Prayer Cipher’s statue sequence, this one is a rotating dial puzzle — and the combination changes every instance, which is why copying a friend’s code never works.
Location
The vault is in the Sunken District, behind a large door decorated with a cracked celestial mural. The door is in the eastern ruins, past the two side treasure rooms.
Solution – Step by Step

- Find the vault door in the eastern Sunken District ruins.
- Study the cracked mural above the door. It shows a circular arrangement of broken glyphs — each glyph has a missing half.
- Locate the four celestial dials flanking the door (two on each side). Each dial shows a partial symbol.
- Rotate each dial so its symbol aligns with the corresponding broken glyph on the mural. The dial symbol completes the mural’s missing half.
- When all four dials match, the door grinds open and the vault is yours.
Key insight: The combination is randomized per instance. Don’t search for a fixed code — read the mural in your own run and match the dials to it. The glyph shapes are consistent, but their arrangement isn’t.

Tips
- Take your time: There’s no timer and no combat near the vault — misalignments just need a re-rotate.
- Screenshot the mural: If you’re playing with friends, screenshot the mural so you can match dials while others watch the door.
- Watch for players: The Sunken District has PvP traffic. Solve the vault early in your run, then extract via the north gate.
Common Mistakes & Troubleshooting
- Looking for a fixed code online — the dial combination is randomized per instance. A code that worked for someone else will not work for you; the mural in your run is the only source of truth.
- Matching dials to each other — dials don’t need to match each other, they need to match the mural. Align each dial to its corresponding glyph independently.
- Missing a glyph — the mural’s broken glyphs are easy to overlook in the dim light. Study the whole mural before touching any dial; walk the length of the wall if needed.
- Rotating in the wrong direction — each dial rotates both ways; if a symbol isn’t aligning, try the opposite direction before moving on.
Solving in Co-op
The vault puzzle is party-friendly:
- One player reads the mural and calls out each dial’s target symbol.
- One or two players rotate the dials on their side — the four dials are spread across both flanks of the door.
- One lookout watches for PvP traffic — the Sunken District is a popular farming map, and vault players are distracted.
- All party members can loot the vault cache when it opens.
